07/17/2013,00:37:51,kelleyelliott,Update from NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer. The ROV has been recovered and is on deck. A CTD cast to collect water samples to 500m for later nutrient analysis was conducted in Atlantis canyon. Multibeam and sub-bottom data is being acquired in Atlantis canyon until 2200. After 2200, multibeam data will be acquired overnight in Atlantis canyon. An ROV dive will be conducted in Alvin canyon tomorrow morning to explore benthic habitats and canyon gemorphology. ROV deployment is expected at 0830. 07/17/2013,11:32:12,Andrea Quattrini,Goof morning Everyone. It is another beautiful day. Calm seas 0-1'. Excited for another fantastic day of diving. The plan is to move up slope to first survey the topography through the first waypoint. We will then move towards waypoint 2, and then possibly jump off the feature to be able to move up and down slope, thereby crossing 100 m of bathymetry. The Dive track will be assessed throughout the day. We are targeting a depth range of 1030-‐850 m during the dive. 07/17/2013,12:49:44,Andrea Quattrini,Thank you Tim. 07/17/2013,12:53:55,jasonchaytor,good morning all 07/17/2013,12:54:13,Tim Shank,Good morning Jason 07/17/2013,12:55:51,Andrea Quattrini,Dive objectives today include surveying geomorphology and benthic communities along the west wall of Alvin Canyon. Our current ship position is 39d53.2101N 70d31.3805W. Going to be another fantastic day. I am really curious to see how this compares to observations in Hydrographer and Atlantis Canyons. We are in approx. the same depth range as Atlantis Mid 1, and on the same side of the wall (west wall). 07/17/2013,12:55:57,Andrea Quattrini,Good Morning Jason! 07/17/2013,12:57:09,jasonchaytor,There is a chance that we will be diving on similar geology today as we did in Atlantis Canyon....if that ends up being true, I am going out to buy lottery tickets for us all! I clearly don't have a lot of faith in my ability to project stratigraphy between canyons :-D 07/17/2013,12:58:19,Andrea Quattrini,Well, if we all win, we can come back out and do more science! We have been delayed a bit because the small boat was overheating. So my best guess still is deep traps being 07/17/2013,hauled up the rocks. I might be able to find out where the fishery 07/17/2013,has been but I am pretty sure it is all along the slope of Georges Bank. 07/17/2013, 07/17/2013,The questions still unresolved in my mind is whether the mark was 07/17/2013,made going down or going up.... or both... still not clear to me... 07/17/2013,Also, the deep grooves are an enigma. and it may be the new grooves 07/17/2013,are somehow related to the old grooves. It is what we call an interbedded sequence 07/17/2013,20:04:56,Andrea Quattrini,Thanks everyone: 16:30 conference call. 1-866-617-5860, passcode 1233796 07/17/2013, 07/17/2013,20:06:05,kellywilliams,Thanks Andrea!
