07/12/2013,12:24:10,Andrea Quattrini,Good morning everyone. We are currently southwest of NE Seeps 3 where we were yesterday, in a site that we are calling NE Seeps 2. Our current position is 39d52.2598N 69d17.0487W, and we are in an intercanyon area between Veatch and Shallop canyons. We are getting ready to launch D2 to a depth of ~1468 m at a base of a slope where we will continue up slope to the top of the ridge.  A water column anomaly was detected by the Okeanos Explorer multibeam in 2012, and we re-confirmed that during last night’s mapping operations. The goals of today’s dive are to groundtruth this water column anomaly and hopefully discover chemosynthetic communities.  We also picked up additional plumes in the multibeam from last night’s operations, so there are additional waypoints that we will likely have time to explore today.

07/12/2013,15:59:55,carolruppel,these seeps are 300 m deeper than those yesterday; they are well within the gas hydrate stability field so therefore not associated with obvious perturbations to the edges of the stabiliity field by various processes.  there are no known diapirs (what heats the sediments at blake ridge seep, cape fear and much of the northern Gulf of Mexico) in this area, and we have reviewed legacy seismic data just to see if anything was missed-it doesn't seem like it.  there is no genetic reason for these seeps, nor the deep ones near norfolk;  there are very obvious explanations for the vast majority of seeps.

No biota here as far as we can tell..This particular texture is associated with hydrate
