This is an update from Andrea Quattrini and Brendan Roark on the Okeanos Explorer. We are currently in between Veatch and Shallop canyons at 39d54.377N 69d15.076W preparing to launch the ROV D2 (Deep Discoverer) on a ridge at ~1125 m depth. The objectives of this dive are to survey a set of seeps that were discovered based on water column anomalies in multibeam data collected in late 2012. We will survey the biology and geological features surrounding these sites. We will be starting on the southwest side of four waypoints. Due to the maneuverability of the ROV and the steepness of the ridge, we will be mostly working (e.g., jogging) upslope (and then back down) through the three deeper waypoints, before ending our dive by transecting up to waypoint 4, which is at 1060 m. Please continue to contribute on the IM by entering your observations and to the OKEX line. Looking forward to a great dive today! 07/11/2013, 07/11/2013,12:25:17,Brendan Roark,ROV in the water 07/11/2013,12:34:55,Andrea Quattrini,Seirios in water 07/11/2013,12:36:12,Andrea Quattrini,Good morning Carolyn.
