This is a live update from the Okeanos Explorer.  This is Tim Shank speaking.  The local EX time is 0800 hours.  We are preparing to launch Little Hercules and Seirios for Dive #10 of this dive program. We are diving this morning on an unexplored shipwreck, known as Site 407. Site 407 was initially located in 2009 with the NOAA Eagle Ray AUV. It is unknown at this time whether Site 407 represents a significant historical resource. It is also unknown whether the multibeam data over the site is showing local depressions caused by associated debris, or whether these depressions are artifacts in the data. An archaeological ROV dive over this site would assist in determining the preliminary potential for the site to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The target depth is 285m and we expect to be on bottom 15 minutes once descent of the vehicles begins. We are launching the vehicles north of the site. Thank you for joining us. 03/30/2012, 03/30/2012,12:07:12,kimfaulk,Tim you have a great signal on the web connection at least. we'll wait for WHOI to get the conference call started 03/30/2012,12:07:27,Tim Shank,Thank you Kim. 03/30/2012,12:13:05,Tim Shank,Launching the ROV 03/30/2012,12:14:57,Tim Shank,ROV in water. 03/30/2012,12:15:38,Tim Shank,Surface current is from west to east here.
