The local EX time is 08:00. Currently we are setting up the ship in ROV launch position to assess weather-related ocean conditions that may delay launch this morning. Our present heading is 329°, depth is 1700m, and coordinates are 26.128' N 084.852' W. Today's dive plan is to explore a canyon at approx. 1600m depth, on the West Florida Escarpment that leads into a large semi-enclosed basin. This unexplored region may contain numerous soft and hard bottom habitats. This depth represents an intermediate range with which to compare the geolocial features and biological communities encountereed much shallower (~400m) yesterday to those we anticipate seeing tomorrow on a much deeper (~3000m) area of the West Florida Escarpment west of our current location. 03/21/2012,12:05:33,okeanosexplorer,Once the ROV is launched there will be a ~1.5 hour descent time. We anticipate launch will be in approx 20 to 30 minutes. Our on bottom dive target is 26 07.282N -84 50.7622. 03/21/2012,12:08:00,santiagoherrera,Good morning, this is Santiago Herrera at the WHOI RCC 03/21/2012,12:15:36,harrisonzimmer,Hi Santiago, how are the feeds looking at WHOI this morning? Dwight 03/21/2012,12:16:17,santiagoherrera,Hi Dwight, feeds are pretty terrible to be honest 03/21/2012,12:16:45,santiagoherrera,we saw some improvement yesterday's afternoon, but now it looks much worse 03/21/2012,12:17:01,harrisonzimmer,Too bad, I"m looking into other solutions for you and a few other places in the same situation 03/21/2012,12:17:06,santiagoherrera,how are things over there? 03/21/2012,12:18:43,santiagoherrera,thank you very much Dwight, we look forward to have normal I2 feeds again soon, in the meantime I think we'll manage to work with the adobeconnect screen sharing as we did yesterday 03/21/2012,12:29:25,harrisonzimmer,Right now the streams look great at URI, but during the last two days, but 9am or so, traffic increased so much it created problems. We think we've solved it by adding bandwidth, we'll see soon. 03/21/2012,12:30:46,santiagoherrera,I1 doesn't look too bad right now, do you think this will be functional today? 03/21/2012,12:34:58,okeanosexplorer,ATTENTION: This is Tim Shank. The local EX time is 08:30. The current weather conditions are such that today's dive is cancelled. We have a 2 knot current and opposing wind- the ship is unable to hold position without reaching critical power limits. We will resume our multibeam mapping now and resume our dive schedule tomorrow. We will provide a playback of yesterday's dive on one of the feeds off the ship. Thank you and please stayed tuned. 03/21/2012,12:35:48,santiagoherrera,thanks for the update Tim, hope the weather improves soon 03/21/2012,12:39:32,santiagoherrera90027,WHOI RCC is out 03/21/2012,23:18:04,okeanosexplorer,This is a live update from NOAA Okeanos Explorer.
