It is 0940 EX time and the ship is located at 85 53.65 00 45.993 and we are currently passing 1300m descending to 2600m.  We are diving below a high hydrothermal plume signal discovered during the last leg of this expedition- now referred to as "4a".  This is an unexplored region, but multibeam surveys by the EX suggest that there is a well-defined axial volcanic ridge with walls separated by ~500m. We will be starting this Dive - EX1103L2_DIVE08_20110721 - by landing 50m to the east of the plume signal and proceeding to the west.  The next nearest intense plume signal is 1700m to the west.
