The launch coordinates are 4d 41.7729666' N 126d 50.8158876' E, and the expected depth at bottom is 1600m. Mapping results from the BJIV have been provided of the Talaud Ridge area.  There are several features of interest here, but in the rift valley, there appears to be a rift that extends from the west margin of the western wall to the northeast and out into the valley.  At the NE end of this 4km-long rift, is what appears to be a circular feature.  The rift could represent active tectonism and therefore locations were fluid expulsion may be occurring.  The goal of this dive is to explore the NE extension of this Rift by starting near the base of the nose of the rift and coming upslope to the SW to follow along the top or the ridge crest.  2010-08-01 00:50:50 marzamarzuki jakarta here - Shank and Potter 2010-08-01 01:04:00 catrionamunro Catriona Munro and Elizabeth Sibert are tuning in from WHOI 2010-08-01 01:25:24 eleanorbors Test 2010-08-01 01:28:14 samanthazelin test 2010-08-01 01:31:35 jonathanrose did something happen to the server 2010-08-01 01:31:36 eleanorbors Can the ship please post a test? The name of the site is "Zona Senja". Launch coordinates are 127d 0.906’ E 4d 53.4702’ N, expected depth at bottom is 323m. The rationale behind this dive and the objectives as stated in the dive plan: " Indonesian seas in this region are well known for their shallow water biological diversity.  The rationale behind this dive is to explore: 1) life in the “low-light” zone below 200m but not deeper than 400 meters; 2) deep-sea faunal diversity at depths between those typically visited in this region (and other regions)- below scuba depth yet shallower than depths we have been exploring; and 3) for comparison of diversity to these deeper and shallower sites.  An additional goal of this exploration is to provide essential grist for identifying the distributional patterns of biodiversity/chemistry/geology at depths between 200-400 meters, a zone in this region on the eastern side of the Talaud Ridge, that is typically has not been explored via ROV." 2010-08-01 22:04:22 okeanosexplorer The ROV launch will start at 0600; it should take about 30min for the ROV to be launched and descend to 320m depth. Transit from WP1 to WP2 on the seafloor is about 1 hour 40 minutes at 0.1 knots; from WP2 to WP3 at 0.1 knots is about 3.5 hours. Return to the surface and recovery from 250 meters takes approximately 30 minutes.  Total dive time is approximately 6 hours. 2010-08-01 22:06:56 okeanosexplorer temperature at surface 29.8C, salinity 34.24 2010-08-01 22:08:46 okeanosexplorer ROV in the watr 2010-08-01 22:10:08 okeanosexplorer welcome all, good to have you here today 2010-08-01 22:10:22 okeanosexplorer current depth 25m 2010-08-01 22:11:33 okeanosexplorer 50m 2010-08-01 22:12:49 okeanosexplorer descending 2010-08-01 22:13:04 elizabethsibert Hello from WHOI, Elizabeth Sibert here, Catriona Munro will be here shortly. 2010-08-01 22:13:23 elizabethsibert Seattle, if there is a conference call, could you please give us a call 508-289-3761 - thanks! 2010-08-01 22:13:24 okeanosexplorer hello WHOI 2010-08-01 22:13:35 okeanosexplorer Santiago Herrera here at EX 2010-08-01 22:13:52 okeanosexplorer 11min to target depth 2010-08-01 22:14:30 okeanosexplorer current at surface 0.8 knots, 135d 2010-08-01 22:14:49 okeanosexplorer current depth 100m temperature 25.4, Salinity 34.82 2010-08-01 22:15:39 PMEL ECC Hi WHOI and Victoria - I was out letting in everyone else.
